Troubleshooting Infiniti Map Updates: Getting Your Navigation Current

Updating your Infiniti vehicle’s navigation maps should be a straightforward process, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. If you’re experiencing difficulties updating the maps on your Infiniti QX50 or QX60, you’re not alone. Many owners encounter similar issues when trying to keep their navigation systems current using standard tools. This guide outlines a real-world solution that might help you get back on track, especially if you’re struggling with the Nissan Map Update Tool or vehicle Wi-Fi updates.

Like many Infiniti owners, I faced frustration when attempting to update the maps on my 2022 Infiniti QX50. Neither the in-vehicle Wi-Fi update nor the Nissan Map Update Tool recognized my USB drive as ready after downloading the vehicle’s metadata. The system would initiate a check for updates, only to revert to the previous screen without any confirmation of the current or new map version. On one occasion, it vaguely indicated an update was performed, but without a visible Map Version on the screen, the actual outcome remained uncertain.

Seeking assistance, I contacted Infiniti InTouch (Canada). They confirmed I had exhausted the standard troubleshooting steps and advised a visit to the dealership. Initially, the dealer’s service department was unfamiliar with map update issues, mistaking it for a problem installing a purchased map. After explaining the process of obtaining map updates and the online tools involved, they agreed to investigate potential updates for the entertainment and navigation system itself. It turned out there was an update available for the system’s firmware. I was asked to return later as the download was expected to take several hours.

Upon my return, the dealer had successfully installed the firmware update. This proved to be the key to unlocking the map update process! After the dealer update, a significant change was immediately noticeable: the “Map Version” information now appeared on the vehicle’s software version screen – an option that was entirely missing before.

With this crucial firmware update in place, the Nissan Map Update Tool finally functioned as expected. I was able to save the vehicle metadata to a USB drive, load it into the tool on my laptop, and it recognized my vehicle and available updates without issue. The tool indicated 24 updates and confirmed that my Canada map was now updated to version 2024.06, bringing it current. It’s likely that other Infiniti QX50 vehicles manufactured around March 2022 may share this initial firmware version and encounter similar map update challenges.

The dealer’s firmware update resolved the problem and enabled standard map update procedures. Here’s a summary of the software and map versions before and after the dealer intervention:

BEFORE DEALER UPDATE:

  • Software Version: 283C24803A
  • Map Version: Not listed (Updates not functional)
  • Navigation Version: nav18.06_stabi_2021.26.2

AFTER DEALER UPDATE:

  • Software Version: 283C25568A
  • Map Version: 17330_8_16 | Canada: 17330_16 (and numerous others now listed) | Nissan Map Update Tool states 2024.06
  • Navigation Version: nav18.06_stabi_2023.21.1

In conclusion, if you are struggling to update your Infiniti QX50 or QX60 maps using the standard Nissan Map Update Tool or Wi-Fi, and you don’t see a “Map Version” listed in your vehicle’s software information, a dealer firmware update may be the necessary first step. This resolved the issue and enabled seamless map updates using the intended tools. Consult your Infiniti dealership to check for available firmware updates for your vehicle’s navigation and entertainment system.
