The original plan called for an M54 swap, highlighting the flexibility and adaptability of the E30 platform.
Embracing Change: From M54 to K-Series and a Shaved Bay Vision
This E30’s engine bay has seen its share of occupants, previously housing an M54 and a 1JZ before the decision landed on a K-series engine. The shaved bay approach aims to eliminate unnecessary clutter and create a visually appealing and functional space.
The project began with a thorough deep cleaning of the interior, removing the carpet and addressing years of accumulated grime.
K-Series Installation and Component Upgrades
With the engine bay prepped, the focus shifted to installing the K20. Key components for the swap included a K power oil pick up adapter and a TF-Works aluminum oil pan and engine mounts.
Fuel System Refinement and Shaved Bay Mockup
A critical aspect of the build was rerouting the fuel lines and installing a new fuel filter and pressure regulator. This process often necessitates custom fabrication work, a common theme in achieving a truly shaved bay.
To visualize the final shaved bay aesthetic, the E30 was moved into a design room for meticulous planning and mockup.

The journey began with a $1,000 rust-free E30, a blank canvas for automotive artistry.
The transformation involved stripping the engine bay, removing unnecessary brackets, smoothing out imperfections with body filler, and applying a custom teal paint job, a signature touch reflecting the builder’s brand.
