Car Wifi Non OBD2: Troubleshooting BM3 Adapter Connection Issues

Connecting a car wifi adapter can sometimes be tricky. One common issue users face is the adapter not staying connected. This article addresses a specific problem with a BM3 wifi adapter that won’t maintain a connection, focusing on solutions that don’t involve OBD2 wifi adapters.

The user reports their BM3 adapter only briefly flashes green when wifi is toggled on/off, then loses connection. They suspect their 5G, 1000mbps Xfinity XB7 router, which doesn’t allow splitting 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, is the culprit, believing the adapter requires a 2.4GHz connection.

However, this isn’t the issue. Home internet connection is irrelevant when using the BM3 adapter with xHP Flashtool. xHP specifically instructs users to disconnect from the internet during flashing. The device should only connect to the adapter’s generated wifi hotspot.

The process is as follows:

  • Initial Setup: If xHP isn’t activated, connect to your regular wifi network, activate xHP, and download necessary files.
  • Flashing: Disconnect from all other wifi networks and connect solely to the BM3 adapter’s hotspot. Ensure all other internet connections are off.

If the adapter’s status light isn’t staying green with the ignition on, it’s likely not properly seated in the OBD2 port. Ensure all pins are fully engaged.

The problem likely lies in the adapter’s connection to the vehicle, not the home network. Double-check the adapter’s physical connection and follow xHP’s instructions regarding internet connectivity during flashing. If problems persist, consult BM3’s support resources for further assistance.
